Dorothy S. Holmes B.A., M.R.E.

Ms. Holmes is the mother of three, grandmother of two and great grandmother of one.  She is employed as Director of the Head Start program at the Lynchburg Community Action Group, Inc.

Ms. Holmes received an Associates Degree from Virginia Seminary and College now known as Virginia University of Lynchburg in 1977, a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Sociology from Lynchburg College in 2003 and a Masters of Religious Education from Eastern Theological Seminary in 2010.

She is engaged in the following community activities and many others: E. C. Glass High School Boosters, Lynchburg Department of Social Services Advisory Board, Executive Board Chairperson for the Johnson Health Center, Executive Chairperson for the Elite Track and Field of Lynchburg and numerous other civic endeavors.

She attends Wingfield Baptist Church where she functions as the Christian Education Director, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Usher and Church Clerk.

For more than 15 years, Ms. Holmes has served as the executive chairperson for the Church School Union of Lynchburg and vicinity. One of her duties as Chairperson of the Union is to plan an Annual Christian Education Workshop for Churches in Lynchburg and surrounding areas. More than 21 topics are offered and over 350 persons attend each year.

She believes the Holy Bible is God’s Basic Instructions for her to live by while here on earth, to earn eternal life.

Her favorite Scripture is Psalm 139

The Scripture she tries to live by daily is Proverbs 3: 5&6
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”.
